Psalm 20:7

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.”

The horses and chariots that carried skilled warriors in battle long ago were among the most feared sights by enemy forces. God is much greater than horses and chariots. He defends us and causes our enemies to flee. We can call upon the fearful name of God Almighty to defend our cause. David, a warrior himself, knew his strength in battle came from God. We too need to have that same confidence. God is our strong warrior who fights for us.

Zechariah 4:6

“Then he answered and spoke unto me, saying this is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”

The children of Israel returned to a broken city and nation after seventy years of captivity. They knew God had called them out of Babylon to rebuild the city of Jerusalem. The task of rebuilding was too big and their enemies arrived daily to put fear in their hearts.

God had a message for them. He has the same message for us today. It is not by your strength—it will fail. It’s not by your power—it will fail. It’s not by your spirit—it is my Spirit that will do the work and sustain you. Call upon my Spirit now so He can give you strength to build what I have called you to build.

Hebrews 11:26-29

“He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.

By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible.

By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them.

By faith the people crossed the Red Sea as on dry land, but the Egyptians, when they attempted to do the same, were drowned.”

Moses saw the great power and wealth of Egypt. It was his to claim as his own, but God called him to a greater nation. Moses chose to be with a broken and battered people because God called him. He chose the nation of Israel, a people in slavery, over the Egyptians who ruled them. Moses didn’t understand how he would do what God had called him to, but once he had been in the presence of God he knew he had no other choice but to obey.

Though the enemy fights against us and brings his best chariots and warriors remember you are God’s chosen. You are God’s special child. Don’t try to win the battle on your own. Rest in Him and let him show you how the victory will come. He may set a bush on fire, or separate a sea, or take you through the valley of the shadow of death, but he will take you through.

Trust him today to lead you; even though you know the battle is too much for you.
Pastor Doug
